Rant: Sunscreen

Ever think your gonna get allergy safe anything and then you react to it?

That was me and sunscreen.

My skin has a nice amount of melanin, the body's natural sunscreen, and to explain even further, melanin helps with skin pigmentation and the development of freckles. (I have no freckles but I tan nicely... a blessing and a curse) People with paler skin use sunscreen more often and sunscreen is helpful! It can help prevent skin cancer and protects the skin from harsh, stinging burns... that is unless you're allergic how I am.

I can use some sunscreens comfortably, but I typically don't use them. I was going to use sunscreen yesterday after taking a shower, and slightly scraping my arms with my dry towel. I went to put on sunscreen so I could go on a walk, allergy safe sunscreen because I was using my mother's sunscreen, but when I applied it my skin started to sting and had a burning sensation. Like any normal person watching their arm turn red in pain, I screamed... and laughed.

My mom ran in and asked me what was wrong, I showed her my upper arm and she revealed the the sunscreen was meant for people with allergies, but that I seemed to be allergic to it.

After rubbing some cool water on my arm, it felt a little better but even now, a day after, if my arm comes in contact with something it slightly stings.

Moral of the story:
Don't trust sunscreen companies. Unless you will burn to a crisp without them.
